LYC Blog #5: This Blog May Give You FOMO

As LYC’s 10th anniversary season opens, Artistic Director Rachel Staunton shares her top five picks for the year ahead – you really don’t want to miss these!

Published September 2022

I honestly think I might have the best job in the world! As Artistic Director of LYC, I not only get to work with inspiring, brilliant young people from every inch of London, but I get to plan cool stuff with the LYC team which we think will enhance their (musical) lives and make amazing memories. Here are my top 5 picks for the 2022-23 season:

A sure thing in Shoreditch

Our winter concert this year will be held at Shoreditch Town Hall on Monday 12th December. We are so excited to take five of our choirs to perform in this stunning venue right in the heart of one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. We guarantee to get you in the festive mood (or your money back!).

Damned if we do…

On Saturday 4th February 2023, young teenage LYC members will be performing Hector Berlioz’s rather epic piece ‘The Damnation of Faust’ in London’s iconic Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank… and it gets even more diabolically exciting as they will be singing with The London Philharmonic Orchestra AND Choir, AND with a rather famous conductor!

Out and about – in London

LYC Experience is alive and kicking again post-pandemic. This is our programme which tours state schools and community groups in London, giving more and more young people a chance to find their voice. We have already been into several schools to lead singing assemblies & singing workshops, and we have big plans this year for whole-family ‘Come and Sing’ days.

Out and about – not in London!

Next summer, one of our older choirs will be going on its first-ever residential course and mini-tour. We know this is going to be a super inspirational time for the choir to bond and make music together in more depth than we usually have time for.

Paaartyyy!

Saturday 25th March will witness the centrepiece of our 10th Anniversary celebrations. We’ll be going back to our Olympic roots (LYC was founded in 2012 and was massively inspired by the community spirit of the games) with a festival style performance in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. All 10 LYC choirs (we’ll have launched a tenth by then!) will take to the stage alongside 1,000 schoolchildren engaged through LYC Experience. It’s going to be amazing and you’d be mad to miss it!

Aargh! FOMO!
